She graduated from Norfolk State University (NSU) with a bachelor’s of science degree in Optical Engineering, a bachelor’s of science minor degree in Mathematics and during her tenure at NSU she played a dynamic role in multiple organizations that developed her technical and core skills. NSU’s National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chose Achaia to serve on their Executive Board as the secretary, 2011-2012, Vice President, 2012-2013 and President in 2013-2014. She jointly was NSU’s sole Ambassador for Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) between 2012 – 2014 while also maintaining her status as a Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Sciences (DNIMAS) scholar for four consecutive years during her term at Norfolk State University. Her Co-op as a Process Optimization Engineer at the Hershey Company, Intern in the Fiber Optics, Semiconductor & Integrated Photonics Group at the University of Central Florida, Intern in the Macromolecular Sciences & Biomedical Engineering Group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Intern in the Neural Sensing & Electronic Systems Integration Group at NSU chiefly developed her professional work and research experience. Receiving the DNIMAS Senior Leadership and Service Award, a NSBE excellence Award, TMCF’s Outstanding Service award and being nominated for the ACHI magazine Inspiration Award were also all phenomenal accolades that were humbling yet gratifying occasions for Achaia. After her time at NSU Achaia went on to receive her Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and now works as a Program Analyst and Performance Improvement Team Liaison for the Department of Defense. She’s currently in her pursuit of a doctorate of education degree in Curriculum and Instruction and plans to use gained knowledge toward the organization she’s founded: Beyond Boundaries Global Leadership & STEM Academy. Her biggest motto is “family first” and Achaia uses the support from her family and friends to propel her forward. She has learned that life has no meaning unless you live each day with no regret and she will continue to defy all odds placed against her as she conquers each goal and all of her dreams.
